Five and half miles - Done!

This is the view that greeted me yesterday morning as we stepped out, and went off to do our errands.  This is a stunning neighbourhood, and I can't wait to take some pics, but alas, that will have to wait until I get back from South Africa.  Yes, now that we have finally moved, I will be off to see my mum.
It's just a quick visit, and there are no races on the calendar that I could see.  Still I will try and fit in a few runs - it will be challenging, and although I have always failed in the past, who knows, I might get lucky......There is a lot to do in Cape Town.  In between taking my mum around, seeing my friends, and having family friends drop by, it is really hard to just go off for an hour - but we shall see (at least I have my mum's elliptical machine and weights to be getting on with).
So quick update on the running front:  I had a long run planned today.  This morning was out of the question as there was so much to do at home.  I finally got out of the door at 5:30pm.  However, I was feeling highly motivated, even though I had some sharp stomach pains.  My goal was to try and run at least 5 miles.  Six would have been perfect.  Since I have not had a long run (or even a short one, bar this week) for ages, I was looking forward to it. As it was quite late and rainy, I decided to keep to the loop I do regularly, and just increase the loops.  There are 2 steep hills on the run up to the yacht club, and 2 on the way back.  I did the loop 3 times for a total of 5.5 miles.  At this point I was having some severe stomach pains, so I called it a day.  The garmin informs me that my pace per mile is slower, but I feel that I am building a quality run that will pay dividends in the long run (so to speak).
Have a great week!

  3. Nicely done on the run. I probably would not have endured with the stomach pains but you did and got in a great run. Enjoy your visit with your mum.
