Rave Run

Things have been quite busy and I have not been doing much, but I finally reached a point where my body was crying out for a run. So I went for one last night, and a longer one this morning. Both were rave runs.
I love running on a Saturday night. When I was at uni, my college had a gym onsite. Saturday nights would find me in there at midnight, and that became a very nice habit. When we moved here, Stuart had a season ticket to our local football (or soccer) team, and would go and see them on Saturdays. That meant a good few hours in the gym. This was before I started watching telly and found alternatives on a Saturday night. So when I go for a run on a Saturday night, good memories come back, and last night was a gentle 3 mile run and I jumped rope for 10 minutes afterwards.
Today I went for a longer run of 5 miles - my usual loop around the Charles River. The sun was out, it was windy and the MIT yacht club was out too. Everyone was up and about and it was good running up towards the science museum. However, on the way back along the river, I found myself running into the full force of the wind. Yes, all of its 40mph speed. Since I had not been outside for a run in ages, I was dressed in gear that was far too Springy. By the time I got home, I was frozen and not even a hot shower warmed me up. It took a hot water bottle.
But the run itself was fabulous. I loved being outdoors again, seeing everyone and getting into the rhythmn again. Two runs in 2 days....hmmm maybe this will inspire me to do a few more this week. Actually I need to get some speedwork in as I am running the BAA 5K the day before the Boston marathon. This is a great race that sells out quickly and the course follows the last part of that of the marathon. Nice!

  1. It's great hearing that your runs went well. I have no idea how cold it can be with the runs and every run of mine is springy or summer, compared to what you need to wear.

I'm seriously thinking about the 5K and was all for it until my long run today when I needed to be picked up due to my IT band.

  2. I'm so glad to hear your runs went so well.

I know what you mean about the memories, I took a run down memory lane yesterday when I ran the path I trained on for my first marathon.

  4. It's funny how you commented on how I increased my fundraisers because my intention was actually to limit myself this year.

I can't remember the last time I wasn't fundraising for something and I think my family and friends are a little tired of me constantly asking for money.

  7. Nothing better than a run outside though I must admit of all weather conditions I hate the wind most. That sounds like a great 5k to run. Must be great to run on the marathon route.

  9. So good to hear you're back at running again! And what a good runs too.

I have never run on Saturday nights nor did I exercise. This is the night we usually stay at home and watch a movie or something together.
