National Run@Work Day is September 17, 2010

I did my first run in a week this morning. There were some unforeseen events which made it difficult (but not impossible) to run. However, I did not run, I took refuge in Kurt Vonnegut's Look at the Birdie
and my soul was restored.  I hope that the day will come when the equation is reversed, and I reach for my running shoes first, rather than a book, but that's the way it went down this time.  The last thing I will say on this topic is that Vonnegut is pure class!  His writing is beautiful.  Ownership of a copy, should be mandatory.
Anyway, although my programme suffered a little this past week, I did a 6 mile (including cool down) run this morning, and it was not too bad.  I felt really good, and berated myself afterwards for not doing it sooner!  Tomorrow at lunch time I will try and do a tempo run.  For those who may not know, it is National Run@Work Day, with the aim being to encourage everyone to do at least 30 minutes of exercise tomorrow, and move toward a healthier, active lifestyle.  I was unaware of this day, but an email came around in our company explaining it, and we were encouraged to join up and go for a run together either at lunch time or after work.  When the final logistics for the run came out today, 10 of us had signed up  in a company with approximately 1000 employees!
The organizer has programmed a 3.75 mile run at noon for us.  There is also a storm raging outside at the moment, but hopefully it will have cleared by tomorrow.  I am looking forward to it, and will certainly try and give it a good go.  If anyone reads this in time, you might wish to organize something at your place of work too.  At present my colleagues show no interest in running, but who knows when that spark might ignite in someone, and it is thanks to events like these, that we get to spread around a little bit of the running love!
I shall give an update tomorrow, but in the meantime, Happy Friday, and don't forget to run at least 30 minutes today!

  2. 10 out of 1000 is not great but at least you know you are one of them. You 10 are better than all the others. Have a good weekend! Spring is here and so is gardening. Luckily I love gardening!

  4. @ Ole! Nice to hear from you. Yes, KV is a superb writer. Enjoy!

@ Johann: Thanks! Where do you find time for gardening?! I think the worse of winter must be over by now.

@ Yogi: Grazie! Si, fra l'altro, ho comprato quel libro di Stefano Baldini quando ero in Italia. Penso che lo leggero' a breve....

  5. That's not much 10 out of 1000 but always better than nothing right?

I read this post on Saturday and I didn't run 30 minutes Thursday but only 23 because the pup had her first running experience which was fun.
