Five glorious treadmill miles...and a mad hatter's tea party!

I went out on Monday evening for a quick run after work, and boy was it hard! The humidity was so high, everyone was walking. I managed 2 miles then stopped. Perhaps I should have soldiered on, but my legs and will power were not made of stern stuff on that day. I walked back home feeling a bit disappointed, but trying to be optimistic at the 2 miles. I will deal with the humidity on another day. I cannot imagine what it must be like for those poor people who live in Florida......it is impossible to imagine running in 90°F humidity every day!
Well, today inspired by Frank's brilliant treadmill run on Saturday, I decided to go back to my old faithful treadmill run. True it was raining, but I used to be a huge fan of treadmill running. And what a great run. There were no bells or whistles, and I ran at a slow pace, but I finished what I had started, and that was a good feeling.  Thanks Frank!
An entirely non-running related event, was a mad hatter's tea party that I was invited to at work. It was such a cool do, that I wanted to tell everyone! The fun committee at our company had organized this and this was the first of their events I actually managed to attend.

It was a brilliant do, there were cucumber sandwiches, scones, and a tea expert, Afkham, from Sri Lanka to talk about the health benefits of different teas.  White tea has the most health benefits - it is also the most expensive.  But he did say that if you want good tea (be it white, green, black etc), be prepared to spend around 35 USD a pound.  In the end it works out to 12c a cup.  He also mentioned that it is very, very difficult to get good green tea.  A very good tip was that one should boil the water, and then let it stand for 5 minutes before pouring onto the leaves.  If you use boiling water with green tea, it will get bitter!  I have to admit that green tea is one I struggle with as it is always so bitter - now hopefully I will know better.  Same system is true for white tea - do not use boiling water.  Use loose tea if you can, as bags detract from the taste, and they are also made with chemicals etc, that impinge on the tea's taste.
Afkham was really good, and I am looking forward to visiting their shop http://timelessteas.com.  He gave us each a pretty china elephant filled with loose black tea and a selection of scented teas.  We also received a cup with in-built strainer.  Finally, to end the party, I held the winning card for a lovely teapot with geraniums planted in it.  Well, I will certainly be trying the green tea again!

  1. I did not know boiling water is what made green tea bitter. My fav tea right now is lemon ginger made by stash.

  2. Thanks for the mention, and the tea info--I've been doing it wrong my entire life and didn't even know it.

  3. I struggle a lot when the humidity is high. I always battle to run on the KZN coast. I don't drink tea at all. I think I had a bad experience with tea when I was small. Can't get it in my body and even have to walk away when I smell tea.
